Primary Symbols | Photographs by Adrian Ravarour
Spiral bound 10.75" x 8.25" 74 pages
Primary Symbols is a homage to Contemporary Art, Pop Art, and Minimalism. This series was created during the 2021 summer coronavirus restrictions. As lens-based Art, the photographs are designs isolated from settings or background scenes. It is a reduction of imagery to simplistic designs that engage concepts of perception, interpretation and representation, the ordinary, cultural iconography, and elements of Zen and Asian Art.

Reminiscent of Henri Matisse's cut-outs, these prime signs are the result of the corona virus pandemic restrictions that still affect travel, isolation, and interaction with people.
Ravarour undertook Color Field photographs that evolved into the Primary Symbols that are different from photograms or cut-outs. He cut hand-made stencils to photograph light.
